New to AdWords?

If you’re new to Google AdWords or you are thinking about starting your own AdWords campaign, there are a few things you need to be aware of.

First; understand that it is not as easy as Google makes it out to be.  The idea that if you create an ad and insert keywords that you think are relevant will all of a sudden have customers overwhelming your website is a nice fantasy, but that’s all it is, a fantasy.

To be effective with your AdWords advertising you must first setup your account properly.  What do I mean by “properly”?  Everything you do in AdWords must have the correct alignment.  Your campaign should align with their  adgroup, which should align with their ad content and keywords, which should align with the landing page content for that ad.

Keywords

Start by choosing the proper keywords for your product or service.  You need to be sure to select keywords that are closely related to the central concept of the ad group.  Their are several excellent keyword tools available including Googles Keyword Tool and Wordtracker.

Landing Page

Once you have decided on the proper keywords, you need to create the landing page.  One of the big mistakes made by newcomers to AdWords is having your website’s home page be the landing page for every ad.  Using your home page as a landing page will cause you to spend your ad budget quickly, without many, or any conversions.  The ad’s landing page needs to be narrowly focused on your keywords and ad content.

The tighter your landing page, keywords and ad content are aligned, the better your click-through rate will be and the lower your cost-per-click.  You want to make sure that when a person clicks on your ad for widgets, they land on a page for your widgets.

Ad Content

To begin with, create simple ads that are enticing to your prospective customers.  What is it that  makes your product or service stand out from your competition?  Be sure to describe any unique features or promotions you might be offering.  Make sure you use one of your keywords in the ad.  Also, make sure the ad aligns with the landing page.

Being Successful in AdWords Takes Hard Work

Being successful in AdWords is difficult and it is an ongoing process.  What is working for you today might not work for you tomorrow, so you need to stay on top of it every day!  Before you begin spending your hard earned money on advertising with AdWords, be sure you understand it.  There are a lot of great learning sources out there and you need to do your homework.  A great place to start is About.com.

Because most small business people don’t have the time to dedicate to learning the ins and outs of AdWords, they will hire a company that is experienced in AdWords marketing.  The fees for these services vary widely, but the time and money you save are worth it.

Of course we here at 123webconnect can provide your business with these services, but there are many others out there to choose from.  The important thing is that you feel comfortable with them and they take the time to explain everything and not rush you into a decision.
